What jewellers need online in India today

People rarely buy a bridal set online without seeing it, but they almost always look online first, compare making charges and share designs on WhatsApp before choosing which showrooms to visit. If your designs, prices and purity details are not online, you are not on that shortlist.

Jewellery pricing makes this harder than normal ecommerce. The same necklace costs a different amount every day because the gold rate moves. The price is built from net gold weight times the day's rate for that purity, plus making charges (per gram, a percentage, or a flat amount), plus stone or diamond value, plus GST. A jewellery website has to do that calculation for every piece, every time the rate changes, without someone editing hundreds of prices by hand.

Trust is the other half. Customers now know about BIS hallmarking and the six-character HUID code on hallmarked gold jewellery, and many check it in the BIS CARE app. Showing the hallmark details, the purity grade such as 22K916, gross and net weight, and the certificate for diamonds on each product page answers the questions a buyer would otherwise ask at the counter.

This page is for single-showroom family jewellers, multi-store chains, diamond and lab-grown jewellery brands, and silver and fashion jewellery sellers. Infoways builds the catalogue website, the customer app, the online store and the admin panel from Mahape, Navi Mumbai, for jewellers in Mumbai, Thane, Pune and across India.

Problems We Fix

What goes wrong for jewellers, and how software fixes it

Online prices go stale

Prices typed once into a website are wrong the next morning. Our pricing engine stores weight, purity and making rules per piece, and every price updates the moment you enter or fetch the day's rate.

Buyers doubt purity

Each product page shows the hallmark, purity grade and HUID for hallmarked gold, and the lab certificate for diamonds, so the buyer can check before coming to the store.

Scheme registers on paper

Monthly savings scheme cards and ledgers get lost or disputed. The app gives each member a passbook with every instalment, the next due date and the maturity amount, and collects payments online.

Stock and weight mismatch

A tag says 12.4 g, the system says 12.1 g. Tag-level stock records gross weight, stone weight and net weight per piece, with barcode or RFID tags, so the counter, the website and the audit all agree.

Walk-ins who leave without buying

Families arrive at a busy hour, wait, and leave. Store visit booking lets them pick a time and a collection, so the right pieces are out and a salesperson is free when they arrive.

Photos that do not match the piece

Shiny catalogue renders make buyers feel cheated in the store. We plan real product photos and short videos with weight shown, plus virtual try-on for earrings and pendants where it helps.

Example: a family jeweller in Dombivli going online

Say you run a family jewellery showroom in Dombivli with around 2,500 tagged pieces, a monthly savings scheme with a few hundred members, and a second branch opening in Thane. All figures below are made up to show the flow.

Every morning your manager enters the day's rates for 22K, 18K and silver in the admin panel, or the system pulls them from a rate source you subscribe to. Every piece on the website re-prices. A pair of 22K916 earrings with a net weight of 6.2 g, making charges at 12% of the gold value and a small stone charge now shows a full breakup: gold value, making, stone value, GST, total. The HUID and a photo of the hallmark sit right under the price.

A bride's family in Kalyan shortlists eleven designs in the app and shares the wishlist with relatives on WhatsApp. They book a Saturday 11 am visit at the Dombivli store for the bridal collection. Your staff get the booking with the eleven tag numbers, pull those pieces into a tray before the family arrives, and keep a salesperson free. They also bring 40 g of old gold. Your store tests it, and the exchange value is applied on the final bill at the counter.

Meanwhile the bride's mother has been a scheme member for seven months. Her app shows seven instalments paid, four to go, and the amount she can redeem at maturity under your scheme terms. She pays month eight by UPI from the app and gets a receipt immediately. At month-end, a report shows instalments received, dues pending and schemes maturing next month.

How We Build It

How Infoways builds a jewellery website and app

  1. 01

    Pricing rules workshop

We write down exactly how you price: purity grades you sell, how making charges work per category, how stones and diamonds are valued, rounding, and how long a quoted price holds. This becomes the pricing engine.

  2. 02

    Stock and tag data

We map your existing stock data (tag number, gross weight, stone weight, net weight, purity, HUID) and plan how it comes from your jewellery billing software. Clean weight data matters more than design.

  3. 03

    Design and photography plan

Product pages built around large, honest photos, weight and price breakup. We give you a shot list so photos are consistent across thousands of pieces. Our UI/UX design team keeps the design premium but fast.

  4. 04

    Build website, app and admin

Catalogue, pricing engine, scheme module, booking and admin panel on one backend, with role-based access so a counter salesperson cannot change rates.

  5. 05

Testing with real rates and real pieces

We test price calculations against your own billing on a set of real pieces, check every scheme scenario including missed and late instalments, and only then go live.

  6. 06

    Launch and wedding-season marketing

App store publishing, then Google Ads and Instagram campaigns planned around Akshaya Tritiya, Dhanteras and the wedding season, sending traffic to booked store visits.

Integrations

Integrations that matter for a jewellery business

  • UPI Autopay or eNACH mandates for monthly scheme instalments, where your gateway supports it

  • Virtual try-on for earrings, pendants and necklaces using the phone camera

Cost and timeline for jewellery websites and apps

A catalogue website with live rate pricing, product breakups, HUID display and store visit enquiries typically falls in the Rs 1-4 lakh range. A customer app with scheme passbook, online instalments, booking and rate alerts, with its backend and admin panel, typically falls in the Rs 4-12 lakh range. A full custom online store with checkout, insured delivery, returns and redemption of scheme value against online orders is usually Rs 6-15 lakh. Shopify or WooCommerce builds cost less, but need extra work to price from a daily rate. All prices are typical ranges, GST extra, and depend on scope.

What moves the price most: the number of pricing rules (many jewellers have different making charges per category, per karigar or per customer type), integration with your existing billing software, how many showrooms share the stock, and diamond or gemstone data with certificates. A catalogue site usually takes 4 to 8 weeks once photos are ready; an app with scheme module usually 10 to 14 weeks. Yearly upkeep is usually 15-25% of the build cost. More detail is in our guide to app development cost in India.

Mistakes jewellers make online, and when to wait

The biggest mistake is putting a "price on request" label on every piece. Buyers read that as "expensive and negotiable", and they go to a site that shows a breakup. Even if you do not sell online, show the price calculation for the day.

The second is building a savings scheme module before your scheme terms are settled in writing. Jewellery savings schemes involve taking money in advance, and there are legal rules around how such advances are structured. Get your CA or lawyer to approve the scheme terms first. Our software then follows those terms exactly: instalment count, grace days, what happens on a missed month, and how the maturity benefit is calculated. We do not decide those rules for you.

Also be careful with selling heavy bridal pieces online with full payment upfront. Returns, insurance and fraud risk are high. Most jewellers do better selling lighter daily-wear pieces, coins and silver online, and using the website to bring bridal buyers into the store. And if you have fewer than a few hundred pieces and no scheme, a well-built WordPress website with daily rate pricing is enough for now. You do not need an app yet.

Jewellery website and app: common questions

Can the website change prices automatically when the gold rate changes?

Yes. Each piece stores its net weight, purity, making charge rule and stone value. When the day's rate is entered or fetched, every price is recalculated. You can also lock a price for a fixed time once a customer starts checkout.

Can we show the HUID and hallmark on each product?

Yes. The HUID, purity grade and a hallmark photo can be stored against each tag and shown on the product page and the invoice. Customers can then check the HUID in the BIS CARE app themselves.

How do you handle making charges that differ by category?

The pricing engine supports making charges per gram, as a percentage of gold value, or as a flat amount, set by category, by collection or by individual piece. Offers such as reduced making charges for a festival can be scheduled with start and end dates.

Can customers pay savings scheme instalments in the app?

Yes. Members see a passbook of every instalment, pay the next one by UPI or card, and get a receipt instantly. Reminders go on WhatsApp before the due date. The rules of the scheme are configured to match the terms your CA or lawyer has approved.

Will it work with our existing jewellery billing software?

In most cases. We import tag numbers, weights and purity from your software through its API or a scheduled file export, so the website never shows a piece that has already been sold at the counter. We confirm this in the first meeting.

Is virtual try-on worth it?

For earrings, nose pins, pendants and necklaces it helps buyers shortlist, especially on the app. It is less useful for bangles and rings. We usually add it after the catalogue and pricing work well, not before.

Should we sell heavy gold jewellery online?

Most jewellers start online with lighter pieces, coins and silver, and use the website and app to book store visits for bridal and heavy jewellery. This keeps return and shipping risk low while still bringing serious buyers to you.

Can we handle old gold exchange online?

Customers can request a quote and share photos and approximate weight, and book a visit. The actual purity test and exchange value is done in the store, and the system records it on the bill.
